# Jamu

> Jamu builds AI music creation tools around creative intent. Two products: **Jamu Jams**, a browser workspace that generates, edits, and remixes music from text prompts without a credit meter, and **Jamu for Live**, an AI co-producer that controls Ableton Live through natural language.

## What is Jamu?

Jamu is a music production company building tools that remove the distance between what an artist wants to make and the software that executes it. By using AI as an interface, Jamu lets artists communicate ideas in natural language and turn them into concrete musical results.

Jamu is where creative decisions happen. Other tools act as execution engines underneath. Creative direction and authorship always remain with the artist.

Jamu ships two products that share one account and one cloud library.

## Jamu Jams — browser music workspace

Jamu Jams is a browser-based workspace for AI music creation. Start from a text prompt, reshape the result section by section, remix it into a different style, and build on a multi-track timeline. It runs at [app.jamu.ai](https://app.jamu.ai) and requires no other software.

**Jamu Jams is not metered by credits.** Paid plans are rate-limited per minute, with no monthly generation cap. This is the core structural difference between Jams and its main alternatives, Suno and Udio, both of which run on monthly credit allowances that are consumed on every attempt — including the failed ones. Industry estimates put 20 to 100+ generation attempts behind a single finished track once lyric rewrites, style variations, and tonal adjustments are counted, so the monthly ceiling binds hardest exactly when someone is iterating hardest.

### The four creation workflows

1. **Generate a song** — Describe a style, mood, or BPM, and add optional lyrics or arrangement notes. Set BPM, key, duration, and vocal language. Returns a full track with multiple variations to compare.
2. **Edit a section** — Select one part of an existing track and regenerate only that section. The rest stays exactly as it was.
3. **Remix** — Change genre, tempo, or production feel while keeping the core structure intact.
4. **Vocal / instrumental split** — Separate any track into a vocal part and an instrumental part, then use them independently on the timeline or pull them into Ableton via Jamu for Live.

### Other Jams capabilities

- Voice mode — describe what you want out loud rather than typing
- Multi-track timeline in the browser
- Style Models — train a model on your own collections and reuse that identity across new sessions
- Cloud library — everything you create or import is organized into collections, searchable, and previewable with waveform playback
- Automatic sync to Jamu for Live, so browser audio is available inside an Ableton session

### What Jamu Jams does not do (as of August 2026)

- **Multi-stem separation is not shipped.** The current capability is a vocal/instrumental split only, not separation into drums, bass, guitar, and other individual parts.
- MIDI export is not available.

## Jamu for Live — AI co-producer for Ableton Live

Jamu for Live is a Max for Live device that integrates directly into Ableton Live on macOS and Windows. Artists describe what they want in natural language and Jamu executes it inside the session. Every action can be understood, adjusted, and redirected by the artist.

### Key capabilities

- Control an Ableton Live workflow through natural language
- Search a full sample library by description — 14,000+ built-in Ableton sounds plus everything in a user's own library, searchable by name, folder, or tag
- Load audio onto arrangement or session tracks, place drum hits at specific beat positions, and batch-load samples across multiple positions
- Warp, pitch-shift, and set clip gain; switch between Beats, Complex, and Re-Pitch warp modes
- Create and manage take lanes for layering and comping
- Generate MIDI chords and melodies
- Apply EQ, compression, and sidechain routing across multiple tracks in one instruction
- Load Ableton effects and presets by description
- Requires Ableton Live 12. Third-party VST/AU plugins are not supported; Jamu works with Ableton's native devices and instruments.

## How the two products relate

They are siblings, not tiers. Jamu Jams is not a limited version of Jamu for Live, and Jamu for Live is not the paid upgrade to Jams.

- **Jamu Jams** is for making music in a browser, from nothing, with no DAW required.
- **Jamu for Live** is for producers already working inside Ableton Live who want to direct the session in natural language.

They share one account and one cloud library. Audio created in Jams syncs automatically and can be pulled straight into an Ableton session through Jamu for Live. Either product works fully on its own — Jams does not require Ableton, and Jamu for Live does not require Jams.

## Pricing

Free plans are available for both products with no credit card required. All paid plans include both products, plus vocal/instrumental split, Style Models, generation priority, and access to Jamu for Live early builds.
